Art Talks With My Dad : Crypto Art

Updated: Feb 23, 2021

I enjoy talking art and new discoveries with my Dad. If no one understands my vision, my Dad does. Even if he doesn't understand fully, he's riding. Same with my mom. They are very supportive of me. Always have been.

Lately, I've been telling my dad about crypto art. I exposed him to NFTs today. I was trying to explain to him, the power of NFTs and what it means for artist royalties. And the numbers we are seeing in the crypto art world. I'm trying to get my foot in the door and be one of the first black artists in that space. I'm trying to get deeper into my niche.

We talked about how I could immediately benefit from at least establishing how I would get my art on the blockchain, and what I could offer other artists, in exchange for putting their art on the blockchain. Talking with him, and teaching him, also teaches me things, then he throws out ideas and avenues of thought that i hadn't explored.

How can a gallery selling only physical art, benefit from art on the blockchain? That is the question I am working through at the moment.

Questions That Need Answers:

  1. Since I can't immediately hop on NiftyGate at the moment, how do I put my own art on the blockchain myself?

  2. Which blockchain? Bitcoin or Ethereum.

  3. I heard Etheruem gas prices are high, but for some reason that is was artists of the past have chosen. Why is that? Questions that need answers.

  4. What are all my options as far as other platforms? NiftyGate, SuperRare...

  5. How do I create my own ERC20 coin? Do I need one? What would it be used for? Is it an NFT? What is an NFT made from?

  6. I want my art to be a non-fungible, digital asset, managed by an (Ethereum) smart contract. How do I make that happen?

  7. Are there any other sites like https://www.cryptovoxels.com/. On that site, I can buy digital land and build a virtual gallery. How do I make i look more real like an oculus environment.

  8. Opensea.com: What can I do with this site? The world’s largest digital marketplace for crypto collectibles and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), including ERC721 and ERC1155 assets. Buy, sell, and discover exclusive digital assets like Axies ,ENS names ,CryptoKitties ,Decentraland , and more.

  9. What's the difference between an ERC20, ERC721, and ERC1155?
