Frequently Asked Questions

What payment methods do you accept?

PayPal, Western Union, Venmo, and Cash App, with Paypal being the preferred option. Western Union is for these rare cases when you can't use Paypal for whatever reason.

Can I determine the medium you will be using for my picture?

Yes, to a certain extent. You have a choice between charcoal, graphite, Copic markers & colored pencil, Pan Pastel & colored pencils and an acrylic paintings. I prefer acrylic paintings or charcoal. Those are my forté. If you do not specify, I will default to using acrylic as my medium.

What does a commissioned painting cost?

Here are some sample prices for one subject (in reference to portraits). These prices do not include framing, taxes, and shipping. Signed Certificates of Authenticity are provided for every commissioned piece.

Commissioned paintings are done on a gallery wrapped canvas with the sides painted, so there is no need to frame. Commissioned drawings are matted and unframed. Please note that a lot of my commissioned work is custom sized, that is, each painting is formatted according to the best composition of the piece. As a result, some of my work is not sized to standard sizes, as per the following sample image sizes. The following information is, therefore, given only as a reference for prices.

Back & White Drawings (Charcoal, Pastel, Graphite, Colored pencils)

  • Image size 9” x 12” USD $350

  • Image size 11” x 14” USD $450

  • Image size 16” x 20” USD $900

WHEN is my order going to get finished? (this is probably the ultimate question number one)

Okay, so... this is a very vague matter, so the answer is vague as well.

It depends on how busy I am at the moment. People make this assumption that when I take their commission, I am working exclusively and only on their piece. In reality,  at any given moment I am working on at least four different orders simultaneously as well as my own collections (which is of a lower priority than your commission). It has to be like that, in order to maintain a steady workflow.

It is very important for you to receive your commission ASAP, and you're absolutely entitled to force a specific deadline on me and you have a full legal right to do so, because I have a wonderful commission policy. It will be mentioned in the contract you'll receive from me.

Communication is key. If you want to check on the status of your commission, email me at BriYvonne@BriYvonneTheArtist.com.

Can I draw from a photograph?

Yep, as long as the photograph is clear, in focus, shows true colors, and is at least 4″ x 6″. Digital photos(.jpegs) should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Please note that I can, and often do, combine information from different photographs into one painting, in addition to making other adjustments (move, enlarge, delete elements, for example).

What are the smallest and largest sizes you paint?

8in x 10in (20 x 25 cm) is the smallest image size I paint for portraits; the largest I have painted is over 36in x 36in (92 cm). As far as drawing goes. I typically don't like to go bigger than 36” x 48”, because I like to add detail into my work, which is very time consuming but I do have the time, if you have the funds. If you would like something bigger or smaller, just let me know. I'm open.

Can you tell me more about the commission process?

As briefly stated above. You will need to fill out the form, then you will hear from me via email. After that:

  1. Email me high resolution (300 dpi) digital photos (.jpegs) of the subject (the more photos I have, the better) and the approximate size you would like the painting to be, with a few words or sentences describing your subject.

  2. After I review the material you have sent me, if I have questions or concerns, I will contact you. Otherwise, no news is good news, I will proceed.

  3. I will then work on and send you one or more black- and-white sketches of what I propose to paint, for your review and approval.

  4. Once I receive your approval, a Commission Agreement with an estimate and a written description of your future painting will be emailed to you.

  5. When I receive the signed and completed Commission Agreement with 50% deposit, the painting will be scheduled to begin. Before your painting is finished, I will send you an image of your painting-in-progress for your review and any minor adjustments.

  6. Your painting should take roughly 6 - 8 weeks to complete, depending on the number of commissions that I have. Upon completion of your painting I will email you a picture of the completed painting and an invoice for the balance due. (In addition to personal checks, cash, and money orders, you may pay in person or online via PayPal, Western Union, Venmo, and Cash App, with Paypal.

  7. Upon receipt of the balance, I will ship your painting to you.  A signed Certificate of Authenticity accompanies your painting.
